December is here!
What a fun month information technology is to teach our kiddos… and a picayune exhausting.
I try to use my students' excitement and buzz to tap into content areas and teach them the standards.
Instead of fighting the Christmas spirit that is going around, I utilise their free energy to keep them engaged with our lessons this calendar month.
And so we are going to learn All About Christmas in United mexican states, Italy and Germany. Try a Costless activity on this postal service.
We get to schoolhouse for 3 weeks in Dec. So each week nosotros learn almost a different state's Christmas traditions.
We are learning about Frg, Italy and Mexico and the kids get SO excited. These are the three books I use for the calendar month to teach my enrichment units.
Printable mini books for each country are so fun for students to fill up out.
CHRISTMAS IN United mexican states
On Monday, I boot off each land we are studying with a slideshow. The beautiful photographs and unproblematic sentences go the kids then engaged and excited. They dearest to share their connections, questions and inferences,
So after nosotros build our background knowledge with the slideshow, I read them our story for the calendar week.
The week nosotros study Christmas in Mexico, our volume is 'Twas Nochebuena and information technology is an adorable story nearly a family celebrating their Mexican Christmas traditions.
Spanish words are used throughout the story, and your students who speak Spanish honey to share and aid the class clarify what the words mean.
This adorable mini book that coordinates perfectly with the slideshow, and then after we await at and discuss the slideshow and read the story, the children each get their own mini book.
Each folio matches a slide from the slideshow, and students beloved to reread the sentences, color the pictures and buddy read with a partner. Then they can take them home to share with their families.
On Wednesday, we go to dive into a bunch of fun Christmas in Mexico activities.
This video is beautifully made and information technology is so neat for students to become to see how Christmas is celebrated in Mexico. Nosotros become see how families gloat Las Posadas.
By the end of the week, my students have learned about las posadas, pinatas, Rosca de Reyes and other Mexican Christmas traditions.
It is such a fun calendar week, and students e'er ask to read the story Twas' Nochebuena again.
CHRISTMAS IN GERMANY
Adjacent up is Christmas in Germany! We are so excited to learn most Saint Nicholas.
Just similar last week when we studied Christmas in Mexico, I beginning with the slideshow to build background knowledge for my kiddos and teach them some of the vocabulary. Plus, this actually builds their excitement for what nosotros will be learning most this week.
Oma and Me is a cute volume nigh a German boy and his Oma getting set for Christmas in Germany.
They are jubilant their German Christmas traditions such as using Advent Wreaths, or Advent Kranz.
The little boy loves to ask his Oma all sorts of questions.
The mini books come in BW and matches the slideshow. Students have already practiced the sentences and vocabulary. This makes an first-class tool to build fluency and comprehension. We colour them, buddy read then they take their books habitation.
By Wednesday, students accept heard the German language vocabulary words for a couple days and now we practise writing them!
The kids always are excited to learn about Der Nikolous, or Saint Nicholas, because they know he leaves special treats in children's shoes!
To get set for Saint Nicholas, the kids can cutting out and decorate their boots then glue them to their "Nosotros are Ready for Saint Nicholas" paper. Be sure to have them only glue the middle/bottom of the area for boots so there is a little pocket at the height that y'all tin leave gilded coins or a candy cane in.
Saint Nicholas brings then much excitement to our classroom! It is so fun to even have the kids line upward their shoes in the hallway. Then bring the kids back into the classroom and read them a story most Saint Nicholas (during which time have a teaching buddy or the secretary leave treats in their shoes).
Full disclosure: if you're deciding which book to read for Christmas in Federal republic of germany week, the kids and I both like St. Nicholas more than Oma and Me.
Afterward, they can go check to see if Saint Nicholas visited. They are across delighted to find chocolate gold coins left in their shoes… information technology is so magical! This is something they volition talk about and remember for the entire school yr. I still retrieve my kindergarten teacher doing this with me.

Now we are fix to learn near Christmas in Italian republic! This is the concluding week we are in school for Dec. The Christmas spirit is all a fizz and it is and so fun. The kids absolutely love learning all almost La Befana!
We commencement the week by looking at the Italian Christmas slideshow. The kids love seeing the pictures of what Italia looks similar and what a Birth crib is. La Befana also gets them super excited… an Italian witch who brings gifts?!
Our story for the calendar week is The Legend of Old Befana . The kids are absolutely fascinated past her, and then this is a super fun book to read aloud. The illustrations in this story are beautiful, and y'all will have a captive audience. The kids will recognize The Three Kings from our week of studying Mexico, so this story really helps the kids compare and dissimilarity Christmas beyond different cultures.
We practice so many enrichment activities with La Befana this calendar week!
The kids know our routine now for the mini books, and then nosotros colour them, practice our fluency and vocabulary then buddy read.
You lot can show the slideshow over again throughout the week for review and vocabulary practise.
Our vocabulary words for this week include Italy, panettone, La Befana, Babbo Natale and birth.
This is a quick little sing a long video almost La Befana. Before y'all show it, you may want to build a niggling background with your students past discussing what Italians like to eat (meatballs and spaghetti) every bit this video is about meatballs! It doesn't requite a lot of real information, merely information technology is cute and giddy.
